St Davids Cathedral

War Horse: The Concert

About the Concert

Michael Morpurgo retells an abridged version of War Horse, accompanied by music and songs from Ben Murray, who previously played the Songman in the National Theatre’s award-winning production.

Set within the magnificent surroundings of St Davids Cathedral, this special performance combines powerful storytelling with live music. The concert will raise funds for The Friends of Treginnis, supporting Lower Treginnis Farm, part of Farms for City Children, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Event details: Join Michael Morpurgo at St Davids Cathedral on Saturday 14 November 2026, with the concert beginning at 6pm. Tickets cost £21 for adults and £11 for children, with proceeds supporting The Friends of Treginnis.

The Story Behind War Horse

First published in 1982, War Horse tells the moving story of Joey, a young farm horse taken from the fields of Devon to the battlefields of the First World War.

Told from Joey’s perspective, the novel explores the horrors of war, the bonds between humans and animals, and the courage shown in the most difficult circumstances. Since its publication, the story has captivated generations of readers and been adapted into an award-winning National Theatre production and a film directed by Steven Spielberg.

About Michael Morpurgo

Michael Morpurgo is one of Britain’s best-loved children’s authors, known for stories that explore friendship, courage, history and the natural world. Alongside War Horse, his celebrated books include Private Peaceful, Kensuke’s Kingdom and The Butterfly Lion.

In 1976, Michael and his wife, Clare, founded Farms for City Children, a charity giving young people the opportunity to experience life on a working farm. The concert’s fundraising connection makes this a particularly special occasion as the charity celebrates 50 years of inspiring children through the countryside.
