From 1–8 August 2026, Llantwd, in the heart of north Pembrokeshire, will welcome visitors to one of Wales’ most iconic cultural celebrations – the National Eisteddfod. Set in one of the most beautiful corners of the country, this year’s festival promises a vibrant week of music, literature, performance, and community, all steeped in the rich traditions of Wales.
The 2026 Eisteddfod takes place in the area known as ‘y Garreg Las’, named after the striking local bluestone that reflects the region’s ancient heritage. The catchment area spans three distinctive regions – Pembrokeshire, south Ceredigion, and west Carmarthenshire – each offering its own landscapes, language, and warm Welsh welcome, or croeso.
A FESTIVAL WITH DEEP ROOTS
The Eisteddfod has a long and proud history dating back over 800 years, with its earliest recorded gatherings in the 12th century. What began as a competition of poets and musicians under royal patronage has evolved into Wales’ largest cultural festival, celebrating everything from contemporary music and literature to traditional craft and performance.
Today, it remains a powerful symbol of Welsh identity, language, and creativity, bringing together thousands of visitors and competitors from across Wales and beyond.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2026
This year’s programme will feature a full week of events including live music performances, poetry competitions, art exhibitions, talks, and family-friendly activities. The Pavilion will once again sit at the heart of the festival site, hosting major performances and ceremonies throughout the week, alongside a bustling Maes filled with food stalls, independent traders, and cultural showcases.
Whether you’re discovering the Eisteddfod for the first time or returning as a regular visitor, there is something for everyone to enjoy – from intimate recitals to large-scale evening concerts celebrating the best of Welsh talent.
