How did you get into your subject?

“My journey into music playing began when my dad used to play his music in the car when we would drive to school. The raw emotion expressed by bands such as ACDC caught my attention, and I felt inspired to create something similar. I started by learning basic chords and experimenting with simple songs, but it quickly became more than just a hobby. Over time, I realised that learning to play the guitar would be really important if I wanted to work in (and write) contemporary music.”

What does it involve?

“I have realised that learning the guitar requires discipline, time, and dedication. It’s about developing a range of skills, from technical proficiency and muscle memory to understanding music theory. I dedicate several times each week to lessons, practice, and improving my techniques, which also means working through challenges like difficult finger placements. It requires patience and persistence but it’s incredibly rewarding. Outside of practice, I also invest time in listening to different genres of music and listening great guitarists to broaden my perspective and improve my creativity.”

What are your goals?

“In the short term, my goal is to improve my technical skills and develop a strong foundation in various guitar styles. I aim to perform in small settings as part of a band, to gain confidence and experience in front of an audience. In the long term, I want to compose my own music and potentially release albums. Ultimately, I hope to carve out a place for myself in the music world, where I can create and share something meaningful with others.”
