Renowned blacksmith, metal fabricator, sculptor, and installation artist Angharad Pearce Jones has been a transformative force in the world of steel artistry for over 30 years. Based in the picturesque village of Brynamman, just outside Ammanford in West Wales, Angharad’s connection to the local landscape infuses her work with a unique and compelling energy.
We are delighted to showcase Angharad’s latest works, inspired by the stunning natural beauty of Caerfai Bay near Twr y Felin. The linear qualities of the rocks and the dynamic flow of windswept gorse on Pembrokeshire hedges resonated deeply with Angharad, influencing the direction and essence of her new sculptures.
The collaboration began with Angharad’s innovative proposal to embed her sculptures within newly laid traditional Pembrokeshire hedges at Twr y Felin. The process was comprehensive and immersive, involving extensive walks, sketches, photographs, and studio work to refine the designs.
Hand-forged in her Brynamman workshop, each piece was painstakingly crafted, galvanised, powder-coated, and finished with vinyl paints that echo the vibrant hues of the Caerfai cliffs. The installation process was equally meticulous. Unlike typical installations on fresh concrete, Angharad’s sculptures were integrated into the lush, established hedges, creating a harmonious blend with the environment.
The result is nothing short of magical. The sculptures seem to have grown naturally within the hedges, their appearance evolving with the changing seasons. This seamless integration gives the impression that the artwork has always been a part of our landscape.
